FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THRIVE INITIATIVE EMBARKS ON KZN SCHOOL ROADSHOW TO UNDERSTAND
BULLYING, EMOTIONAL WELLBEING AND SUPPORT NEEDS
The Thrive Initiative, a purpose-driven organisation focused on emotional intelligence and
stress management, will embark on a KwaZulu-Natal roadshow this April with a dedicated
focus on engaging directly with schools to better understand the emotional challenges faced
by learners and educators.
This roadshow marks a strategic shift towards a fact-finding and research-driven approach,
where Thrive will meet with school leadership, teachers, and learners to explore the realities
on the ground, particularly around bullying, emotional wellbeing, and the growing pressures
affecting school environments.
Rather than delivering a predefined programe, Thrive’s primary objective is to listen, learn,
and gather insights that will inform tailored interventions aligned to the specific needs of
each school community.
“Before we can offer solutions, we need to deeply understand the lived experiences within
schools,” says Brian Segal, founder of the Thrive Initiative. “This roadshow is about creating
space for honest conversations with educators and learners, so we can identify what support
is truly needed, especially when it comes to bullying, stress, and emotional regulation.”

Across KwaZulu-Natal, Thrive will engage schools in structured discussions and informal
dialogues aimed at unpacking:
The current state of bullying and peer dynamics
Emotional and behavioural challenges among learners
The pressures faced by educators in managing these issues
Existing support systems and where gaps may exist
Thrive recognises that many challenges within schools including bullying, disengagement,
and behavioural issues are often symptoms of deeper emotional stress and a lack of
effective coping mechanisms. By focusing on these root causes, the organisation aims to co-
create meaningful, practical support strategies with schools.
The insights gathered during this roadshow will contribute to the development of customised,
school-based programmes that focus on:
Building emotional intelligence among learners
Equipping educators with practical tools for classroom management and emotional
support
Improving communication and relationships within the school environment
Creating safer, more supportive spaces for learning
Thrive’s approach is grounded in key principles:
Awareness over blame
Practical tools over theory
Empowerment through conscious choice and response
A central concept in Thrive’s methodology is restoring balance between cognitive
understanding and emotional awareness, enabling individuals to respond more
constructively to stress, conflict, and social challenges.
“This is not a one-size-fits-all solution,” adds Segal. “Each school has its own dynamics,
challenges, and strengths. Our role is to partner with schools to understand these nuances
and build interventions that are relevant, practical, and sustainable.”
The KwaZulu-Natal school roadshow forms part of Thrive’s broader national rollout strategy
and reinforces its commitment to early intervention, preventative support, and long-term
impact within education systems.

By placing schools at the centre of this engagement, the Thrive Initiative aims to play a
meaningful role in shaping healthier, more resilient learning environments across South
Africa.
